RWITC History
Horse racing has been around in Mumbai for more than 200 years. In 1800, the Bombay Turf Club was started by the Britishers who collaborated with a local Indian businessman, in the present day Byculla region of the city.
14 years later, it shifted its premises to its current location at Mahalaxmi Flats. Originally marshland, it was reclaimed and donated to the club by a prominent industrialist Cusrow N Wadia. In 1864, the Bombay Turf Club changed its name to Western India Turf Club. The Royal tag would be added by King George V in the 1920s.
RWITC Just Behind RCTC
Come the 1900s, the Royal Western India Turf Club was just behind Royal Calcutta Turf Club in terms of importance in Indian racing. All the important British Royals including Queen Elizabeth II visited the club during their reign.

RWITC Racing Season
